Sinn Féin Newry Councillor Charlie Casey is calling on Newry & Mourne District Council to investigate the possibility of adding a fully lighted walking track around the site of the new swimming pool. Speaking about the proposal Councillor Casey said, “Newry will have a state of the art swimming facility in the coming months which I have no doubt will be a major success story. “However, you only have to drive around Newry in the evening time especially and see the amount of people who are out walking. I feel that the construction of a proper fully lighted walking track around the circumference of the new pool would be another major attraction to the facility. “I believe that the site is ideal and would provide a safe environment for walkers. In addition the new road layout would make it easily accessible for people. I will be raising this issue with officials and asking them to find out the costs associated with such a walking track. Casey added, “I firmly believe that this idea would be warmly welcomed by the many walkers in Newry and surrounding areas.”
