Ennis hosts GAA meeting with MEP

Crotlieve Sinn Féin councillor Sinead Ennis has hosted a meeting between MEP Martina Anderson and representatives from GAA clubs across South Down.

The meeting took place on Saturday 1st March in the Balmoral Hotel, Warrenpoint.

Councillor Ennis described the meeting as “a wonderful opportunity for local GAA clubs to liaise with Martina Anderson on the issue of applicable funding.”

Ennis continued, “Over 30 representatives of local clubs, including Chairpersons and Club and County Development Officers, attended this meeting during which Martina outlined funding opportunities for clubs to explore for the period 2014 – 2020.

“Martina also informed those in attendance of a delegation including GAA, Rugby and Soccer codes which she recently hosted in Brussels. This group included senior members of the GAA’s Ulster Council and exploring funding sources was top of the agenda.”

The meeting concluded with a questions and answers session and Councillor Ennis stated that she was happy to be of assistance to local sports, saying; “The GAA is a vital community resource in South Down. I am delighted to have been of some assistance today and I will endeavour to help any club which requires follow up information in light of today’s session.”
