‘Tracing your Mourne Roots’ a huge success in Stormont

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has paid tribute to the children involved in the Tracing Your Mourne Roots project that was on show in Stormont recently.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “I would like to pay tribute to Kilkeel, St Colman’s and Grange Primary Schools that embarked on this project to look at life in the Mourne’s region at the turn of the last century.

“History has more to offer than wars, battles and tragedies and looking at how we lived and worked is as important in educating our children.

“The project, which opened in the Nautilus Centre in Kilkeel in October is a novel way of having children participate and therefore learn about history.

The Sinn Fein MLA added, “The many visitors to the Long Gallery were very impressed with the project and I would urge people to go along to the Nautilus and see the full exhibition.”
