Rostrevorfest European Beer Festival excitement reaches fever pitch

What are you doing this St Patrick’s Weekend? Rostrevorfest is a European Beer Festival with an Irish Rock twist!

The festival is taking place in a specially erected marquee at St Bronagh’s GAA Club, Mary Street, Rostrevor on 15th and 16th March.

It promises to be a real crowd pleaser with live bands taking the stage from 4pm right through until closing time and a range of European beers for all to enjoy. The weekend is part of ongoing club fundraising for (but not exclusive to) the proposed development of new playing fields.

As well as live music, a bar full of European beer and other beverages, the event will also be showing a number of sporting events on the big screen over the weekend.

This will include Ireland’s game in the 6 Nations, the National League games televised that weekend and Manchester United v Liverpool game in the Premier League – something for everyone.

Entertainment over the weekend comes from four Irish bands; Blackthorn, a Belfast based five piece group who have been a staple on the music scene both locally and internationally since 1970; Three’s A Crowd, a two piece with a difference who play a huge range of songs from the 60s right through to 2014; All Folk’d Up, popular with the students and regular performers in The Hatfield, Belfast and Temple Bar, Dublin; and The Fuzzy Burgers, Monaghan based mad hatters who are sure to bring the house down with their quirky style. There will also be a DJ taking the stage to finish off both nights.

Rostrevor Club Chairman Malachy McCourt spoke to Newry Times about his excitement for the festival. “The idea of a proper beer festival is something new for Rostrevor, it will also be a new area for those who have a cult following of beer festivals to experience.

“We will welcome everyone over the weekend and hopefully it will prove to be a big success for the club and people of Rostrevor.”

Seamus Rafferty, bands’ coordinator and guru of the local music scene gave his thoughts on being involved, “I am delighted to be involved with Rostrevorfest and I have no doubt that this will grow each year and become an annual event.

“I would urge people to get themselves down to Rostrevor over the two days to sample what will no doubt be a brilliant weekend.”
