Excitement builds in Newry for the ‘Return of the Monkey’
The Brass Monkey has long been a part of the Newry social scene since opening over 40 years ago and this Friday evening will see the monkey return to its former glory thanks to ambitious new owner Marie Therese McKenna.
Local face Marie Therese McKenna, or ‘MT’ as she is affectionately known as by the staff and locals, explained to Newry Times some of the changes that The Brass Monkey has seen since she has taken the wheel.
“Our Chefs are offering a wider range of delicious meals, mouth-watering homemade desserts and different daily specials,” she revealed.
But if you are looking something stronger the new and improved cocktail menu is the thing for you. “I have always been a fan of classic cocktails and that is exactly what The Brass Monkey will provide,” explained MT as she samples the new Strawberry Daiquiri.
“All our cocktails are made with the finest ingredients and with any three cocktails for £10, you don’t have an excuse not to try them.”
The Brass Monkey has always provided top class entertainment to its customers and this is still the case with live music every weekend and entertainment during the week.
“The craic won’t end simply because the weekend does,” laughs MT, “Our grand opening will feature my dear friends MOJO who I am pleased to say will be our Sunday Feature, something that I am really excited about.”
Marie Therese added, “My team and I have been talking about some ideas for the next 12 months and I have to say I cannot wait but everyone will have to wait and see what tricks will be pulled out of the hat.”
The Brass Monkey is open from 10am every day for Breakfast with Lunch beginning at 12, so if you haven’t popped in yet then what better way to experience The Brass Monkey than to call in for a top class meal and a gossip with the First Lady herself?
