McKevitt calls for improvement of road infrastructure in South Down
During Question Time in the Assembly this week Karen McKevitt MLA called upon the Minister for Regional Development to improve rural roads in South Down particularly the roads used by vast amounts of traffic during the A2 road closure.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “The A2 shore road was closed from Wednesday 12th February 2014 Friday 14th February following the partial collapse of the sea wall.
“This road closure meant that all traffic was diverted to the rural side roads round Warrenpoint, Rostrevor and Hilltown which were also badly beaten by the bad weather.
“In his response to my question Minister Danny Kennedy recognised the weaknesses of these rural side roads and the need for improvements to be made to the road infrastructure in my constituency.
She added, “It is vital that work on these roads is carried out as soon as possible to keep South Down moving safely.”
