Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “I am pleased that the Minister for Regional Development has agreed to add Ballyholland Primary School to the Safer Routes to School programme.

“This programme concentrates on making the journey to and from school safer for children and parents, particularly those who must navigate along rural roads without footpaths.

She added, “New safety measures, including flashing schools signs, will be provided before the end of March 2014 to enhance drivers’ awareness of school children and reinforce the “go slow” message.”
