Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Doran has condemned those responsible for smashing a window of St.Colmans Catholic Chapel at the Massforth area of Kilkeel on Friday night. Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Doran commented, “What took place on Friday evening is an absolute disgrace and I want to condemn those responsible for breaking the large stained glass window of the chapel. “The criminals involved used a brick and a statue to cause thousands of pounds worth of damage and this incident comes just three months after another statue was damaged at the Grange Chapel. “This is becoming a worrying trend and I am concerned that these attacks could be connected. All places of worship should be treated with respect and I’m sure the whole community of the Mournes will be disgusted with this act of wanton vandalism.” Doran added, “I would ask anyone with any information to bring it forward and for the public to remain vigilant of suspicious activity in the future. Hopefully we will not see a repeat of this type of blatant sectarian incident.”
