Clarke welcomes return of Circuit of Ireland to Down and Mourne

Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed the return of the Circuit of Ireland to Northern Ireland this year which will visit Belfast and also Downpatrick and Mourne Tourism Destinations on Good Friday 18th April, 2014. Clarke told Newry Times, “I am delighted that the 2014 Circuit of Ireland event management has teamed up with Down District Council which will bring the world famous rally event stages to both Downpatrick and various Mourne tourism destinations over the Easter break. “As a keen motorsport follower I know the major benefits that such an illustrious and well recognised sporting event will bring to this part of County Down “The Circuit of Ireland rally event will be broadcast across the world by Eurosport and will certainly help promote on the tourist stage both Downpatrick and Mourne tourism destinations which are part of the rally circuit,” he insisted. “The hosting of the Circuit of Ireland event has a massive following of avid rally supporters from across Ireland, UK and Europe and no doubt there will be an increase of visitors and tourists to both Downpatrick and the Mournes which will be good for the local economy and tourism. “I am very pleased that Down District Council are helping to support, sponsor and promote the Circuit of Ireland rally event in Downpatrick and Mourne and the staging of such an international sporting event over the Easter holidays being hosted in this part of County Down is a terrific opportunity to showcase the Down and Mourne area. Clarke added, “It will be an exciting Easter weekend of rally sport which will bring many of the top rally drivers to Downpatrick and Mourne and I have no doubt that the return of the Circuit of Ireland to this part of Northern Ireland will be well received and enjoyed by many spectators and I hope it will continue to be an annual sporting and tourism event that will be supported by Down district Council.”
