Man dead after South Armagh crash

A man has died this evening after a road traffic collision in South Armagh.

The death comes just days after 64 year old Robert Morris died after being hit by a bus as he walked along the Killowen Road in Rostrevor on Wednesday.

Tonight’s crash happened on the Forkhill Road in Meigh and is believed to have involved two vehicles.

Police are currently in attendance and the Forkhill Road has been closed between Railway Road and Low Road. Diversions are in place.

Reacting to the news, SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh, Dominic Bradley expressed his shock and sadness. “I am shocked and saddened by the news another person has lost their life on our roads here in South Armagh within the space of just over a week.

“My immediate thoughts are with the family of the deceased and, on behalf of the community, I extend my deepest sympathy to them.

Bradley added, “The last few weeks have brought great sadness to many homes due to road traffic accidents and I would like to underline the message given by Environment Minister Mark H Durkan yesterday that we all must exercise the utmost caution at all times on our roads.”
