Gibbons calls for repair of shore walkway

Mark Gibbons, Sinn Féin spokesperson for the Crotlieve electoral area, has warned Rostrevor residents to be vigilant while walking by the slope area of the shore in the village until much needed repairs are carried out.

Following his representations, local Sinn Féin Councillor Mick Murphy has raised the matter in Council.

Speaking to Newry Times, Gibbons commented, “Following the very popular Christmas swim in the village, which was held on New Year’s Day this year, several people came to me to share their concerns about the dangerously low wall there and the need to raise it to a safe height as there is a 25ft drop on the other side.

“They also pointed out that due to excessive rust the steps and railings in the area are about to collapse. I have raised this concerns with local council representatives and hope to have the matter dealt with in the near future.

Gibbons added, “Until repairs are made I would ask all local residents to be careful while swimming and walking in the area.”
