Police urge vigilance after spate of Warrenpoint car thefts

Police in Warrenpoint are stressing the importance of locking vehicles following a series of thefts from cars in recent weeks.

The majority of these vehicles had been left unlocked in the Warrenpoint area so police are calling on car owners to take simple crime prevention measures to avoid becoming the next victim of an opportunistic thief.

Police believe that a number incidents occurred in the Warrenpoint area over the last fortnight with items such as electronic tablets, cash and particularly sat navs taken from often unlocked cars.

Vehicle owners are therefore advised to always lock cars, even if parked outside your house and to never leave high value items inside vehicles for any length of time.

Police are also asking the local community to be wary of high value items like sat navs or electronic tablets being sold at knock down prices.

If anyone has been offered items for sale in such a manner or has any information on the thefts, please contact police on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
