Police are reminding householders to lock away their jewellery and make it more difficult for thieves to cash in on such valuable items. In fifty percent of all domestic burglaries, jewellery is stolen. It is easy for thieves to transport jewellery and is also normally quite easy to find in any household. Police have been working with CASH for GOLD outlets and jewellery businesses across the District to make it more difficult for thieves to dispose of stolen jewellery. There are steps that every householder can take to reduce their chance of becoming a victim. Don’t put all your jewellery in one place: Burglars will check jewellery boxes, bedside cabinets and drawers. Think smarter, think somewhere else. Consider investing in a home safe or safety deposit box. Ensure your jewellery is insured and photographed. Make sure your home is locked and properly secured at all times. If you would like further advice or information on protecting your jewellery you can contact your local crime prevention officer on 0845 600 8000.
