Football’s coming home for Warrenpoint Town

After months of travelling to Dungannon for ‘home’ games the players, management and supporters of Warrenpoint Town FC are ecstatic at the news that the club has passed its IFA ground inspection.

Members and supporters of the club have been putting in endless hours of preparation, especially over the last few days to make sure everything was finished in time.

Local SDLP Councillor Connaire McGreevy told Newry Times, “The results of the hard labour have paid off.

“Before the season started I and others in the council worked to ensure that a funding package would be put in place to ensure that the council owned ground would be suitable to host Premier League football and ensure premiership football would be back played in our district.

“Friday [20th December 2013] will see the return of warrenpoint to Milltown and the anticipation is increasing each hour.

“It will be a marvellous night for the players, management and supporters and I am looking forward to it. With the travelling support coming to Warrenpoint we have a chance to reap some benefits in terms of our restaurants, bars and shops.

McGreevy added, “A final note of congratulations should be given to Killowen Contracts who have worked extremely hard to deliver in a tight time frame the works that were required to ensure that the team would play their home games again in Warrenpoint before Christmas. The fairy-tale story continues; football is coming home.”
