Newry shoppers urged to ‘Shop Local this Christmas’

Newry and Mourne Councillor Pat McGinn has urged people to consider local options when doing their Christmas shopping and decorating this year.

The Sinn Fein Councillor, who has been atthe forefront of encouraging a”First Stop – Shop Local” campaign, told Newry Times, “Shopping local retains communities; creates local employment and self employment.

“These have been tough economic times and we need to do all we can to help our traders and businesses. They are part of the local community and in our major town centre throughout Newry and Mourne, they are the local community.

“They generate wealth, employment and opportunity and are the glue which binds communities together. I encourage all to consider “Shopping Local First this Christmas”

The Councillor added, “Newry and Mourne Council needs to continue to focus on its commitment to local businesses and communities. I would also expect to see encouraging economic sustainability and prosperity as one of the key objectives of any new Council format.”
