Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has visited Newry and South Armagh where she viewed the work of local cultural and sports organisations. The Minister visited the Sacred Heart Boxing Club as well as Newry’s Football and Rugby Clubs. She said, “The Sacred Heart Boxing Club has been training local youngsters for 27 years and has recently benefitted from the Boxing Investment Programme. “It is good to see Newry City Football Club back in business and I have no doubt that the club will build itself up again to achieve the successes it enjoyed in the past. “With rugby in Ulster growing from strength to strength it is heartening to see its popularity rise in the Newry area. She added, “Across culture and sport, there is a common thread giving people a sense of purpose and pride. That was very evident across the sports and cultural organisations I had the pleasure in meeting today.”
