‘Time for commitment on Narrow Water Bridge’ – Ruane

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has called on the Taoiseach to commit funds to the Narrow Water Bridge Project.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane stated, “This project has the potential to be an economic catalyst for the entire South Down and North Louth region.

“We need to secure this extra funding to see it over the finish line. I am concerned that due to delays in committing to the funding by the Irish Government that the entire project is being put in jeopardy.

“There is a commitment of funding from SEUPB, the Assembly, Louth and Newry Councils. It is crucial we get a clear funding commitment from the Irish Government to begin the construction of the bridge.

“The project has cross party and cross border support and the Taoiseach has previously endorsed this project as a major cross border project so he needs to back up these words with actions.

Ruane added, “Sinn Féin will continue to pursue funding to see this bridge completed so we can open up the region to economic regeneration through tourism and new business.”
