Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane commented, “I was delighted to have welcomed some 30 seniors last week to Stormont for a tour of the building.

“It is so important for us to engage with all sections of the local electorate. Ultimately we are here on your behalf and it’s vital that engagements like this one happen regularly.

“The group had a wonderful day and I look forward to working with them in the near future on some of the very important issues that they raised with me.

Ruane added, “Our senior citizens have so many skills and so much knowledge to bring to the table when debating both regional and national issues.

“It was great to hear their perspectives on things that directly affect them, including winter fuel payments and community funding allocation.”
