Clarke welcomes Funding for Castlewellan Heritage to be explored
Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed a grant of over £50,700 pounds for an historic project to explore Castlewellan’s Heritage including the Annesley Family Legacy and Lives of Ordinary Folk which has been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to Down District Council in partnership with Castlewellan Futures.
Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke stated, “As a member of the Recreation committee I am delighted that £50,700 pounds has been awarded to Down District Council.
“There is a very strong historic link between Castlewellan and the Annesley family who built the town and Castle, lake, forest park and arboretum. It will involve local schools and will include an exhibition, and a play.
“As well as local schools and a local youth group developing a small exhibition and heritage trail to include a series of 10 interpretation panels from Castlewellan through to the Forest Park.
Clarke added, “I welcome that Down District Council have been able to secure the grant of over 50,700 pounds from the Heritage Lottery Fund which will now be used to promote Castlewellan’s rich history and close links with the Annesley family and Castlewellan Forest Park.”
