Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the news that an upgrade to the footpath on Main Street, Hilltown is to begin in the near future. Ruane told Newry Times, “I welcome the news from DRD Road Service that the footpaths on Main Street Hilltown are to be upgraded. “I had previously met with Road Service on the issue so it is good that the work will proceed in the next few weeks. “The upgrade, which will include new higher kerbs, extra drain gullies and dropped kerb crossings to facilitate disabled and people with prams will enhance the area and make it safer for pedestrians. Ruane added, “I also welcome the fact that further surveys will be carried out in order to see if any improvements can be installed to facilitate pedestrians.”
