‘Recognition for volunteers of ‘friendliest games’ vitally important’ – McKevitt

SDLP Spokesperson for Culture, Arts and Leisure, Karen McKevitt MLA has welcomed the announcement that there will be free ice hockey tickets for all World Police and Fire Games volunteers.

Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “It is vitally important that all our wonderful volunteers who made the 2013 World Police and Fire Games the ‘friendliest games’ ever are given recognition.

“They truly represented all that is good about Northern Ireland and extended a warm welcome to all the visitors the games attracted.

“I am delighted to hear that the Belfast Giants, in partnership with DCAL, have kindly decided to stage their own special Volunteer Appreciation Day offering free tickets for their opening pre-season ice hockey match on Sunday 1st September.

McKevitt added, “This ice hockey game will compliment a number of recognition events at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast in September and October. I want to congratulate all volunteers once again and encourage them to avail of the recognition events taking place.”
