SRC has a bumper year for A Level Results

The Southern Regional College has attained an overall 88% in its A2 grades with a higher number of A and A* than last year.

A total number of 325 candidates sat subjects as varied as Chemistry to Law. A total of eighteen learners obtained either the maximum grade of A* or A in all their subjects. Furthermore five of these learners from Lurgan to Markethill are going forward to study Medicine in a range of Universities from Queens to Dundee.

In terms of STEM provision it was an excellent year with Biology, Chemistry and Physics all obtaining 100% pass rates. Within the STEM area 50% of all learners obtained Grade A or above.

Christopher West from Markethill achieved an outstanding 3 A* grades in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and a grade A in Physics. Christopher is going to study Medicine at the University of Dundee. James Gillanders from Drumguiney, Co. Monaghan achieved superb results with 3 A* grades in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. James will be taking a year out to explore his options before returning to study.

Another success story is Daniel Megarity from Armagh who achieved 3 Grade A results in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. Daniel will be continuing his studies at Queen’s University, Belfast in September studying Civil Engineering.

Sarah Lockhart from Jerrettspass made the decision to return to her studies with SRC, with a farming background and experience of working in a veterinary practice for many years she knew this was the career for her.

Sarah took the decision to come back to study two years ago. Sarah said, “I would definitely recommend SRC to everyone, especially for those who wish to return to study, staff and tutors were so supportive and I was given the freedom I needed to make it an easy transition.” Sarah has accepted a position to study Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool.

Paul Torley, Head of School for General Studies and Applied Science said, “This has been a great year for our learners. I am very proud of our achievements in STEM focused areas and the high volume of A Grades. It is a real testament to the hard work and effort of staff and learners in a Further Education College that we have performed so well.”

Many students have been accepted onto courses in Accounting, Business, Chemistry, Computing, Communications, Dietetics, Drama, Engineering, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiography, Speech Therapy and Veterinary Science.

Southern Regional College offers a wide range of ‘A’ Level, ‘AS’ and National Diploma courses. An SRC Clearing Day is planned on Thursday 29th August 2013 on all our campuses to inform students of any available places on our courses. This event will be open to prospective students who are unable to obtain a place or any late applicants.
