Sinn Féin meets All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care

Assembly Member Mickey Brady and European MP Martina Anderson have held a meeting with Paddie Blaney, Director of the All Ireland Institute of Hospice & Palliative Care (AIIHPC) in Newry on Wednesday 7th August.

Ms Blaney wanted to meet the Sinn Féin representatives to discuss the work of the AIIHPC and how the European Union and the Assembly might support the Institute’s work.

“The AIIHPC is an island wide organisation comprised of a consortium of eight health agencies and four universities all working to improve palliative and end of life care in Ireland,” Brady explained.

“Their aim is to secure the best possible care for those approaching the end of their lives and Ms Blaney met with myself and Martina Anderson to discuss ways in which the Assembly and EU could assist the organisation.

“I will be speaking to my Sinn Féin colleagues on the Assembly Health Committee with a view to inviting Ms Blaney to Stormont in the next term.

Brady added, “In addition Ms Blaney wanted to make contact with community groups in Newry so I have spoken to the Confederation of Community Groups and they will also be inviting her in to speak to their members about the work of the AIIHPC.”
