Community groups urged to apply for Rural Transport Fund Voucher Scheme
Sinn Féin councillor Colman Burns has urged community groups in Newry and Mourne to apply to the Rural Transport Fund voucher scheme.
Councillor Burns, a member of the Community Transport Board, explained that the fund aims to help community groups who wish to transport 17 or more passengers by issuing a £100 voucher toward the cost of buses.
“This is a great scheme which is open to all constituted community groups across the area for travel in October, November and December of this year. For many groups the cost of transport is prohibitively expensive, this can mean that plans for day trips are abandoned.
“A voucher to the value of £100 would make a great difference to community groups and would mean that the group’s funds could be used for something else.
Burns added, “I would urge any interested groups to contact NI Direct on 0300 200 7819 or e-mail rtfvoucherscheme@nidirect.gov.uk to obtain an application pack. The closing date to return the completed applications is 30th August 2013 and there are a limited number of vouchers available for each area.”
