Culture Minister visits Newry and South Armagh

Sinn Féin Assembly Members for Newry & Armagh Mickey Brady and Megan Fearon brought Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister Carál Ní Chuilín on a tour of six local arts and sporting organisations on Monday 5th August.

During her visit Minister Ní Chuilín visited Sticky Fingers Children’s Art Group, Sacred Heart and Bosco Boxing Clubs and Thomas Davis Corrinshego, Dromintee and Crossmaglen Rangers Gaelic Football Clubs.

Speaking about the visit Fearon said, “I arranged for Carál to come into the area as I know the wonderful work which these groups are involved in in their communities.

“A number of the groups we met today have funding issues and Carál was receptive to their situations. In some cases she gave advice as to where the groups might be able to source funding and I hope that this information will be useful to the groups we met.”

Newry MLA Mickey Brady added, “The welcome we received at each group was wonderful and each group really went to a great effort to display all of the good work they are involved in.

“Carál has identified funding for boxing clubs in particular and for this reason I was happy to bring her to two Newry clubs which are doing amazing work in very dilapidated premises.”
