Local community gets set for World Police and Fire Games

SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt is encouraging the local community to get behind the World Police and Fire Games.

McKevitt told Newry Times, “It is set to be an exciting week for the area as the World Police and Fire Games are set to begin.

“When the official opening of the Games takes place in Belfast on Thursday night people from Newry and Mourne will be celebrating the opening of the games with JLS, Microlip and Quaywest who are performing in Pairc Esler.

“This will be the last concert for the popular group JLS and one that is not to be missed. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through Ticketmaster with some of the proceeds going to Northern Ireland Children Fund for Children.

McKevitt added, “Facilities in South Down have been chosen to host a few of the prestigious World Police and Fire Games events and the local community should take up the opportunity to be a part of the games and cheer on the participants.”

People can attend any of the following events free of charge and be involved in these exciting games:

Canoe Sprint – Castlewellan Lake, Castlewellan Saturday 3rd August and Sunday 4th August 2013

Mountain Bike Cycling – Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor Saturday 3rd August and Sunday 4th August 2013

Mountain Running – Donard Park, Newcastle Saturday 3rd August 2013
