Drainage work set for Ballyholland
SDLP MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt has welcomed the commitment from Roads Service that drainage works and minor road improvements will commence on the Lower Corrags Road, Ballyholland this week.
McKevitt told Newry Times, “I met with Roads Service and local resident Peter Brady yesterday to discuss drainage problems on the Lower Corrags Road and subsequent to this meeting Roads Service has recognised the need for improvement work to be carried out and given a commitment that work will begin this week.
“Drainage has been a problem on this stretch of road for many years, particularly during winter months as water lies on the road and turns to frost or ice,” the SDLP MLA insisted.
“This can make for treacherous driving conditions. The work Roads Service is undertaking should make it easier for water to be drained away and prevent a build-up from occurring.
“The work is due to commence from Tuesday 23rd July and should be completed within a quick timeframe. Residents can expect to experience minor road disruption while this essential improvement work is being carried out and they may want to allow extra time for journeys.
McKevitt added, “I would like to thank the local residents for highlighting this issue to my office and the local Roads Service authorities.”
