‘Action needed to help and support local Post Offices’ – Clarke
Alliance South Down spokesperson Councillor Patrick Clarke has said action must be taken to help and support the valuable post office network across Northern Ireland.
Clarke told Newry Times, “Post Offices are at the heart of many town centres and villages across Northern Ireland, providing a much needed valuable service for local communities.
“The Post Office network also plays a direct role in supporting small businesses and boosting the local economy, generating trade for neighbouring businesses by encouraging shoppers into the locality.
“As a Councillor I am committed to ensuring action is taken in supporting and securing the future of our local postal services. It is essential all levels of government explore ways of providing more public services through the post office network.
Clarke added, “Alliance is urging the Executive to explore the possibility of introducing a Post Office Diversification fund, similar to that available in the devolved administrations of Wales and Scotland, underpinning the financial security of individual post offices and helping them diversify into new business areas.
“Alliance is committed to protecting and enhancing our town centres and will fight to secure the essential post office service remains in place.”
