Clarke urges the public to stay safe at the seaside

Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has urged the public to stay safe at the seaside during the good weather.

His comments follow several rescues by the RNLI over the weekend.

Councillor Patrick Clarke said, “Northern Ireland is currently basking in a heat wave, however I would urge the public to stay safe when near the sea. People should take the necessary precautions to avoid the potential dangers of the sea.

“We have some glorious stretches of coastline along the east coast which I would encourage people to visit. However, people must act responsibly if near the sea.

“We are again indebted to the bravery of the RNLI in rescuing these individuals over the weekend. Their heroism never ceases to amaze me and I would like to thank them for their actions.”

Clarke added, “I would encourage members of the public to follow the instructions of the coastguards on beaches and if they see somebody getting into trouble they should ring the emergency services.”
