Police appeal for witnesses to Newry pipe bomb incident

Detectives in Newry are appealing for information following a suspected pipe bomb type attack in the Chequer Court area.

It is believed that an explosion was heard in an alleyway in the Chequer Court area sometime between 12.30am and 1am on the morning of Sunday 30 June.

Slight damage was caused to a wooden fence and no-one was injured in the incident. The incident was reported to police at approximately 5.30pm on Sunday 30th June.

They then attended the area and the remains of the device was taken away for further examination.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the Chequer Court area on the evening of Saturday 29 June is asked to contact CID in Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
