Woman hospitalised after Derramore Woods incident

Detectives are investigating an incident in the Derrymore Park area of Bessbrook this morning, Friday 21st June.

Police received a report just before midday that a woman had been taken to hospital for minor injuries.

Police are working to establish the details of this incident and are asking anyone who may have been in the Derrymore Park area and who may have seen the female or who saw anything suspicious to contact them immediately.

Fews area Sinn Fein Councillor Pat McGinn said reports of an alleged assault were sketchy but that he was aware that a woman had suffered some injuries after an incident today.

“Police I believe are investigating allegations of an assault and at this stage I would encourage all to stay clear of speculations until details become clearer,” said the Councillor, who lives close to the Wood.

Detectives at Ardmore are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
