Sinn Féin squares up to Sacred Heart Boxers
The gloves were definitely off when Mickey Brady and Megan Fearon called in to the Sacred Heart Boxing Club on Friday for a tour of the club’s facilities and to meet some of the boxers.
“The Sacred Heart Boxing Club has been located at Cuan Mhuire for the past 27 years and, while the premises has served them well, it is in a terrible state of disrepair. The club house is dilapidated and in need of urgent repairs.” Brady said.
“Its unbelievable to think that such talent can be honed in such decrepit surroundings. I am going to try to highlight the plight of this fantastic club through the Assembly to aid much needed upgrade works.”
Speaking about the visit Fearon said, “I was delighted to meet professional boxer Patrick Murphy who was training with a star of the future, Newry man Conor Wallace. Conor is representing Ireland in Germany on Tuesday 18th June and we wish him luck with that.
Fearon also spoke about the club; “I was delighted to meet with the people involved in the Sacred Heart club today and to listen at first hand to some of the problems that these small clubs are facing on a daily basis.
“I also know that councillor Charlie Casey has met with the club on a number of occasions and he has kept his party colleagues up to speed with issues also.”
