Parents in dance-off to raise cash for local primary school

Parents in Saval are putting on their dancing shoes to raise much needed funds for a new mobile classroom at St Colman’s Primary School in Sheeptown.

Ten teams of dancers are honing their moves ahead of the Try To Dance extravaganza in Saval GAC on Saturday, June 22nd at 8pm.

Mums, dads and past pupils will be emulating their dancing heroes with Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Footloose all included in the show.

Behind the scenes footage of the groups during training and ‘celebrity’ judges will all add to the fun on the night as St Colman’s aims to raise £5,000 towards a much needed mobile classroom for its pupils.

Commenting on the event, St Colman’s Principal, Adrian Savage said, “It’s great to see so many parents involved in this event.

“We have had much support throughout the parish and we are confident that we can raise the money required to help towards the new classroom facility at the school.

“We want to see as many people as possible coming along to support the dancers and there will be raffle prizes on the night too – including a Down GAA shirt signed by the team. It’s already shaping up to be a fantastic event!”

Many local businesses have also shown their support and are sponsoring the dancing teams. Tickets are now in short supply so if you don’t want to miss out, buy one today.

Try To Dance takes place on Saturday, June 22nd at 8pm and tickets cost just £10. For more information, visit the Saval GAC Facebook page. Alternatively, call St Colman’s Primary School on 028 3026 6184 or Yvonne Houghton on 07749 123 160.
