Sinn Féin praises Forkhill Fleadh

Sinn Fein Councillors Colman Burns and Anthony Flynn have praised the local Ring of Gullion Comhaltas for their successful hosting of the county Armagh fleadh in Forkill Village recently.

The weather was great with glorious sunshine throughout the weekend which added to the festival atmosphere in the picturesque village.

Councillor Burns said it was a credit to everyone involved and showed the beauty of this part of our District to everyone that visited.

“Both myself and my colleague, Anthony Flynn approached Council Officials with a request for floral displays to be introduced throughout the village prior to the start of the Fleadh.

“Thankfully, we were successful and 16 extra planters were installed which will enhance the appearance of Forkhill throughout the summer. The hosting of the County Fleadh is a great boost for the many musicians in this area and helps to further promote traditional music in South Armagh.”

Councillor Flynn also complemented the Comhaltas and hoped that the event would return next year. “The new Primary School in the village was hard fought for over many years and it was great to see it open and used to its full potential to facilitate the competitions at the weekend.

He added, “With the continuing high numbers visiting Slieve Gullion play park and courtyard, and the many competitors and spectators that attended Camloch for the Triathlon and Forkill for the County Fleadh, South Armagh is now truly open and ready for tourists.”
