‘Kitty Road users need to use caution’ – Doran

Kilkeel Sinn Féin councillor Sean Doran has asked road users in the Kitty Road area to reduce speed and pay attention to the road.

The call comes following a number of complaints about speeding in the area.

Doran commented, “Speeding on the Kittys Road is particularly dangerous given its locality between a local play park and a community centre, and the high volume of children that come with that.

“Children are regularly crossing the road to reach the play park and the high volume of speeding traffic is putting these young people at high risk. The risk of a serious accident here is ever increasing and something has to be done to curb the speeding.

“However, it is my understanding that signs are being erected in the coming weeks to notify drivers of the play park and the potential for children to be on the road and this is a welcome measure.

Doran added, “I would like to thank Roads Service for this small step and I would ask that drivers take heed of the notices and drive carefully through the area. I hope to build on this in the near future with further traffic calming measures.”
