St. Paul’s win Ulster Colleges Treanor Cup
Last year’s beaten finalists St Paul’s Bessbrook came from 4 points down at the break to claim the Danske Bank Treanor.
St Eunan’s were the better team during the opening half though and built up an interval lead of 1-6 to 0-5 with a goal and a point from Niall O’Donnell and excellent points from Marley, Carr (2), Toye and Maloney.
Richard Keenan hit the target twice for Bessbrook in the first half and he was accurate again early in the second after Carr had stretched St Eunan’s lead.
Ryan McSherry pointed twice before a goal from Jarlath óg Burns in the 44th minute tied the game on 1-8 each.
The goal-keepers took centre-stage over the next 8 minutes with Chris Duddy denying certain scores for Burns twice and substitute Aaron Anderson. At the other end Michael Murphy also brought off a brilliant stop in the 45th minute.
However, Aaron Anderson broke Letterkenny resistance with a goal in the 52nd minute and points from Josh Durnin, McSherry and Gaskin sealed the deal for a Bessbrook side that had fine performances from Ferdiad Ó Gribbín and Declan Loye in defence and Sean McParland in midfield as well as that hard-working full-forward line that provided so many options for their teammates.
