A night of Orange with Heroes and Legends

Join us for a night of mayhem and craic pre Armagh V Cavan in the Ulster Championship with the key panellists of the legends from the Armagh 1977 All Ireland finalists and the heroes from the 2002 All Ireland Championship winning team on Thursday 16th May 26th throw in 7.30 pm Canal Court Hotel Newry in aid of the Newry Hospice and St Vincent de Paul Society. Tickets priced at £10.

The Armagh All Ireland final team of 1977 is remembered in the county to this day with names such as; Smith, McKinstrey, Loughran. McCreesh, Morriiarty, Kearns and McAlinden to name but a few.

Although beaten by Dublin on the day the 1977 team has a special place in the hearts of all Armagh supporters. Dublin were appearing in their fourth successive All Ireland final and despite scoring 3-6, a tally that would have won most All-Ireland Finals, Armagh were beaten by 12 points, and the occasion was a huge disappointment to their colourful and enthusiastic supporters.

The 2002 team rode in to the All Ireland final on the wave of an impressive Ulster Championship success, interestingly being the last team to win the Ulster Championship in the 20th Century and the first to win it in the 21st century (1999 & 2000).

With Teak-tough defenders in the McNulty brothers, Francie Bellew and Kieran McGeeney, a dominating centre-field of John Toal and Paul McGrane and forwards of the calibre of the McEntee brothers, Oisin McConville, Diarmuid Marsden, Stevie McDonnell and Ronan Clarke, the biggest mystery is how such a talented team only landed the Sam Maguire once.

We urge all Armagh Gael’s to come out and join our ‘Legends and Heroes’ and raise much needed funds for two great charities.Ard Mhacha Abu.
