An exciting new live outdoor festival has been announced  for Newry City.

Newphonic 2013, ‘The New Sound of Newry City’ as the organisers describe it, will be held on 29th June 2013 in McClelland Park, Creamery Quarter.

With performances from international acclaimed artists and an initial schedule of major events taking place in Newry over the next 5 years there is no doubt that this family event for all is going to rock Newry this coming summer!

The organisers, Mama Concert Entertainment Ltd, is a recently established local events and promotions group based in Newry, specialising in musical events.

A spokesman for the exciting new festival spoke to Newry Times and stated, “We aim to grow and develop our business, whilst also contributing to the growth and development of Newry’s reputation as a cultural tourism destination.

“We wish to establish our brand and help ‘put Newry on the map’ as a must go destination. We want to invest in Newry and contribute to the development of the City. We plan to establish a new annual outdoor musical event in Newry which will become a recognised signature music festival over the coming 5 years.”

The spokesperson continued, “The first event taking place in June 2013 will be a pilot event in anticipation of a much larger event planned for 2014. We intend to promote the upcoming festival as an event for all the community and hope to generate an increased footfall visiting and staying in Newry and surrounding areas over that weekend.

“We believe this increased footfall will have a ripple effect, increasing sales figures and bringing significant positive effects to the business community in Newry, evidenced by other recent successful local events: Pride in Newry, Oktoberfest, Tanglewood, Olympic Touch, Jedward Concerts, etc….

“It is the success of these events that have convinced us that Newry is ready for a major annual event that will contribute to the development of Newry as a major City. We wish to capitalise on Newry’s clear potential and be a part of its bright future.

The first Event will be held in McClelland Park, Creamery Quarter, Newry on (Saturday) 29th of June 2013. This Event is estimated to run between the hours of 6:30pm and 11pm.

The spokesman added, “We hope you will agree that this an exciting and beneficial development in the tourism schedule of our city. We will endeavour to ensure all reasonable measures are taken to minimise any disruption caused.”
