SDLP to hold Agri-Food Conference
The future of food and farming in Ireland is the focus of a major Agri-Food Conference being organised by the SDLP in the Canal Court Hotel in Newry on Thursday April 18th at 11am.
SDLP Agricultural Spokesperson Joe Byrne said, “The food and farming industry continues to face major pressures including the recent horsemeat scandal, weather and CAP reform.
“With Ireland holding the presidency of the European Union the SDLP is delighted to have secured as keynote speaker Irish Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney TD who is central to negotiations affecting the future of farming on the island.
“Also addressing the conference will be Head of the Foods Standards Agency Gerry McCurdy, Prof Chris Elliott from Queen’s University and Prof Patrick Wall from UCD as well as SDLP DEFRA member Margaret Ritchie MP and Agriculture spokesperson Joe Byrne MLA.
Byrne added, “Anyone with an interest in agriculture and food is invited to attend the event which starts at the Canal Court at 11am.”
