Police arrest two after Class A drugs find

Police in Newry have arrested two men following the recovery of a quantity of suspected Class A drugs and a number of Royal Mail items.

Officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf car on Craigmore Way at around 5.35am on Sunday, 7th April. A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of suspected Class A drugs and a number of postal items.

A 24 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and a 35 year old man was arrested for interference with the postal service, possession of criminal property, concealing criminal property, theft, fraud by false representation, wasting police time, obstructing police, making a false declaration and driving with no insurance.

Further searches were conducted in the Parkhead and Carnagat area on Sunday, 7th April. The two men have been released on bail pending further enquiries. All postal items recovered were returned to Royal Mail.
