New health centre announced for Newry
Health Minister Edwin Poots has announced that a new health centre will be built in Newry as part of a £40m funding package.
The health centre will host GP’s as well as community services like diagnostic, imaging and children’s services and is earmarked for opening in 2016.
Describing the new health centres as ‘hubs for the provision of health care’, Health Minister Poots said, “A key element of ongoing health care reform is the need to move services away from hospitals, except where it is absolutely necessary, and to develop service provision in the community so that people can access treatment closer to their own homes or, where possible, at home.
He added, “The provision of these new facilities will assist that process.”
