Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has expressed her disappointment at the SDLP for what she insisted was the party’s failure to block Jim Allister’s Special Advisors Bill. Speaking to Newry Times, Fearon stated, “I am disappointed in the SDLP for failing to block the Special Advisers Bill, as it undermines equality and the Good Friday Agreement. “Since the Bill was introduced we have clearly stated that it is politically motivated and undermines the Good Friday Agreement and equality, as it serves only one purpose which is to discriminate against political ex-prisoners in employment. “The SDLP claim they are a party of equality yet they supported this Bill. Senior members of the SDLP have said that they are not happy with the Bill. Fearon added, “If those members are not happy they should block the Bill by signing a Petition of Concern, putting an end to this infringement of equality once and for all.”
