Rogers welcomes remedial work in Cabra

South Down SDLP MLA Seán Rogers has welcomed works that have been carried out on the junction of the Ardaghy Road and Lacken Road, Cabra.

Speaking to Newry Times, Rogers said, “My colleague Carmel O’Boyle approached my office regarding serious flooding issues at the junction of these two roads.

“We made representations to both the DRD Water Service and Roads Service and as a result investigations took place. These protracted investigations concluded that a drainage pipe had been damaged by plant roots. The Roads Service has since taken remedial action and has replaced the offending pipe.

Rogers added, “This is great news and thanks must be given to the Roads Service for this work. I have been assured that this will permanently fix this issue.”

Councillor O’Boyle added, “I am delighted that this work has taken place. Not only was this a huge issue for the residents but it was impacting upon school transportation in the area.

“It was a major flooding problem and in turn a treacherous issue during icy spells. I hope that this work brings some relief to drivers and pedestrians who utilise the road on a daily basis.”
