Alliance welcomes recycling of cartons into blue bin

Alliance Party South Down spokesperson Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed the announcement by Down District Council that from 12th March Down District ratepayers will now be able to recycle beverage cartons into their blue bins.

Beverage cartons are now very widely used to package milk, fruit juice and an increasingly wide range of food products, including soup, chopped tomatoes and pulses.

Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke stated, “I welcome that from 12th March Down District ratepayers will now be able to recycle beverage cartons which is good news for the environment whilst also allowing ratepayers to recycle more of their household waste.

“The more recycling that the householder consumer can put into their blue bin, the less household waste that has to go into landfill sites, which in turn helps the consumer and the environment.

“There is such a vast range of beverage cartons that are now widely used to package milk, fruit juice and an increasingly wide range of food products and toiletries.

Clarke added, “I would encourage all Down District ratepayers to continue to recycle as much of their household waste as possible which now will include beverage cartons from 12th March.”
