Man arrested in England to appear in Newry court on burglary charges

Police in Newry have charged a 21 year old man with seven offences of burglary and one of criminal damage.

The charges relate to incidents in the Newry and Dungannon areas between 2009 and 2011. The man was arrested in England yesterday and returned to Northern Ireland.

Newry and Mourne Area Commander, Chief Inspector Davy Beck said the arrest and charge of the man demonstrates the PSNI’s commitment to driving down burglary in the local area.

Speaking to Newry Times, Chief Inspector Beck said, “Our local communities have highlighted burglary as a major concern and burglaries in Newry and Mourne are currently down by 21.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

“This should send a clear message to criminals that there is no hiding place and we will continue to bring those who offend before the courts.”

The man will appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court this morning, 8th March. As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
