Key Spring/Summer Trends 2013

Now that the New Year’s resolutions have been given up on (or kept on if you’re good!) it’s time to look forward to the spring and summer of 2013. There is a plethora of new styles and shapes for all to look forward to this year.

Firstly, one of the key trends is monochrome; basically fashion’s fancy word for black and white. Paris and New York fashion week has conveyed some of the most stunning monochrome trends with bold shapes to make the plainest of colours stand out to create what will surely be some of the most iconic styles of 2013.

What’s great about monochrome is that it is the most simple of trends for women, and men, to pull off. I can guarantee that every one of you reading this will have at least five items of black and white you could team up.

In addition, for the more fashion conscious readers who may think this is one of the more boring trends, why not style up your monochrome with a pair of bright heels or a blazer. This is most certainly one trend that is easy to pull off for everyone of all shapes and sizes.

Secondly, not surprisingly for spring time floral prints are back; groundbreaking. However the plus side of this bold choice from our favourite designers is that they produce timeless pieces that can be worn year after year. Some designers have opted for the classics with small, dainty prints and floaty flowers.

Whilst I do love a good floral in the summer I find myself being more impressed by the likes of designers Isabel Marant and Viktor & Rolf with their bolder prints. Such designers have gone against the status quo, interpreting florals in a more stand out-ish way opting for bold blacks, reds and blues with large prints.

Whatever your own personal taste there is no denying this years floral trend has something for every one.

Thirdly, cropped jackets are also a must buy this year. Great in a recession, buy half a jacket. Despite my apparent cynicism I am partial to a cropped jacket or top. If there was a time to wear one it is most definitely spring/summer.

They portray a certain fresh look to parallel the mood of the season, and can make any outfit that bit more summer ready. Despite the fitted cropped jackets on the fashion capital’s runways drowning the model’s tiny frames, there are actually some classic, timeless designs.

I’m sure they’ll look better on people with a bit of meat of their bones. Furthermore, this truly is a trend that repeats itself every couple of years and so I would recommend investing in a truly beautiful piece that can be worn time and time again.

Ultimately, we can see the diverse and versatile range of designs this coming summer and it’s clear that there really is something for everyone.
