McKevitt welcomes ‘school ahead’ markings for Ballyholland
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has welcomed the news that DOE Roads Service is to enhance the existing school road marking at Ballyholland Primary School.
The works will include two five meter bands of full road width of red textured surfacing with “School Ahead” wording installed on top.
Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “These small changes are greatly welcomed by the community as they will make the journey to and from school safer for school children, parents and staff.
“These markings should make drivers aware that children are in the area and encourage them to reduce speed and be cautious. Measures such as these are particularly important in rural areas where there are no footpaths meaning children and parents must walk on the side on the road.”
She added, “I support the introduction of all road safety measures and will continue to push for further measures to be introduced in rural areas.”
