Two rescued from Warrenpoint fire

A man and woman are being treated for the effects of breathing in smoke after being rescued from a house fire in Warrenpoint last night.

The duo, believed to be in their 20’s and 30’s, were rescued from the fire in the seaside town after firefighters responded to an emergency call to the Duke Street house at around 3am this morning (Saturday).

Speaking to Newry Times, Sinn Fein MLA Caitriona Ruane praised the work of the fire service. “The Fire Service has again shown their commitment to the local community by rescuing two people from a fire in Duke Street.

“I am relieved that no one was seriously injured and would like to pay tribute to all those involved in the rescue,” she added.

Police are investigating the fire and urged any witnesses to contact them.
