Casey attends launch of “The Townland of Drumalane” event
Newry Sinn Féin councillor Charlie Casey has congratulated the organisers of the project named “The Townland of Drumalane” which was launched in the parochial house at Drumalane Church on Wednesday 30th January.
Speaking to Newry Times about the project councillor Casey said, “I have no doubt that the partnership between Drumalane Quayside Close Community Association and the Newry Maritime Association will provide an historic and eventful journey back in time.
“The dedication of the people involved is clear to be seen and it will provide an interesting look at the relationship between the area and the nearby canal which was a hub of activity in days gone by.
“I believe that both Gerry Coyle (Chairperson of the Community Association) and James McAreavy (Newry Maritime Association) will ensure that all available information and artefacts will be produced to open up the debate about this historic part of Newry in the coming months.
Casey added, “I look forward to the events which will be organised by this group and pledge my support to them and their organisations and wish them all the luck in the coming year.”
