Fearon calls on local area to support heart month
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has called on the people of Newry and Armagh to support heart month in February by wearing something red on the 1st February.
Speaking to Newry Times, Fearon said, “Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the North and across the Island. The Heart Foundation is using February to raise awareness of how we can look after our hearts and also help raise funds for research.
“The ‘Rock Up in Red’ initiative is asking people to wear something red on the 1st February and donate £2 to the Heart Foundation. It can be as simple as wearing red socks or a red tie, it’s the message that is being sent out that makes it an important day.
She added, “I would encourage clubs, schools and workplaces in our area to organise an event not only to raise money for the charity but also to raise awareness as to how we can look after ourselves and promote healthy hearts.”
